West Sussex Charity Turning Tides Launch Emergency Appeal to Support Increasing numbers of Homeless People through Covid-19 Crisis. Embargoed until Thursday 16th April 00:01 On Thursday 16th April local charity Turning Tides is launching its first ever emergency appeal in response to the escalating Covid-19 crisis. The charity has supported homeless people across West Sussex for the last 28 years but Chief Executive John Holmstrom says: ‘We have never seen anything like the situation we are facing now and urgently need to ask for help. The picture we are facing as an organisation is deeply troubling.’ more


The Sleep Council is urging people to make the most of their extra hour in bed this National Sleep-In Day (Sunday, October 27, the day the clocks go back) by resetting their whole bedtime routine. More than a third of all Brits survive on less than six hours sleep*, and although sleep needs differ, the recommended amount for adults is between seven and nine. more

Ropetackle Cinema :Films October 2019

Ropetackle Cinema based in Ropetackle Arts Centre has successfully implemented its short term project of showing Relaxed and Friendly Screenings once a month and the initial uptake has been very positive indeed with over fifty customers for its showing of Bohemian Rhapsody in August. more


Lancing Eagles Running Club proudly present the 2019 edition of the Steepdown Challenge. The main race, which starts and finishes at Lancing Manor Leisure Centre off the A27 (BN15 0PH) will be run over a hilly downland course of 8.5km on trails and paths involving a short challenging climb up to the Steepdown trig point which is at the halfway point. Runners will be rewarded with stunning panoramic views, after which the course then winds its way back down to finish at the Manor. more

It’s also your chance to get involved with your local hospice, St Barnabas House, who provide vital, compassionate and free care to local people with life-limiting illnesses. more

Sussex Quilters’ Charity Quilt

Further to the success of the last exhibition in 2015, the Sussex Quilters are once again holding an exhibition on 12th October 2019 at Shoreham Community Centre, Shoreham-By-Sea, West Sussex BN43 5WU. The exhibition will be open between 10.00 and 4.00 with the Charity Raffle being drawn at 3.30. Entrance to the exhibition will cost £2, there is disability access, a café and parking is available on site. more

Shoreham-by-Sea Horticultural and Allotments Society, Part Two.

Back in June we took a look at the first fifty years of Shoreham’s Horticultural and Allotments Society. Now we continue to follow the society’s development into the second half of the twentieth century. In the 1950s there were three main shows a year, with seven meetings for members to attend and three for beginners, to encourage more people to take up gardening. more

Maggie Morley celebrated half a century of caring and enjoying the job she “truly loves” this week. The specialist oncology nurse (pictured with flowers) was joined by more than 30 colleagues, past and present, to reflect on a 50-year career at Southlands and Worthing Hospital. “Nursing was my calling,” said Maggie, “and at 16 I left home to be closer to Southlands. I was homesick, but this was what I wanted to do.” more

Annual Day Trip to Worthing for WWII Veterans

Every year since 1948, the Taxi Charity has been bringing veterans to Worthing for the day, to spend time with their friends and enjoy seaside favourites, fish and chips and ice cream. This year’s outing is only a week after many of the veterans spent a week in Normandy with The Taxi Charity for D Day 75, remembering the friends they lost. more
